Produce – the Dirty Dozen to Eat Organic and the Clean Dozen

When selecting produce for your family, it is best to buy what you can organically. Many of us try to budget, and can’t eat all produce organic. But, please, pay attention to the list of the dirty dozen. I’m publishing this list in the hopes that it will help you decide where it is best to spend your “organic” dollars:

This list is from the Environmental Working Group:

12 Most Contaminated
Peaches
Apples
Sweet Bell Peppers
Celery
Nectarines
Strawberries
Cherries
Pears
Grapes (Imported)
Spinach
Lettuce
Potatoes

12 Least Contaminated
Onions
Avocado
Sweet Corn (Frozen)
Pineapples
Mango
Asparagus
Sweet Peas (Frozen)
Kiwi Fruit
Bananas
Cabbage
Broccoli
Papaya

If you go here, you can download a “wallet” guide of the list from EWG!

P.S. I’m so glad that bananas are on the “least contaminated” list. When my son won’t eat anything else, he will ALWAYS eat his “malala”!

About Mama

Became a mom in July 2010. Married since April 2005. Work during the day, and when I come home, I'm all about my family. We cloth diaper our son. I made his baby food. We eat as much organic as we can. We are against factory farming. We eat whole foods as much as possible. I believe that if you need to because of time constraints, it's okay to eat something that came out of a box, though. :-) We do what we can, when we can & don't beat ourselves up about the rest.
