Homemade (NonToxic!) Foaming Hand Soap Recipe

In my desire to eradicate as much triclosan, dioxane, sodium laurel sulfate, diethanolamine, formaldehyde, parabens, and dirt from our home, I have decided to eliminate as many different commercial soap products from our daily lives as I can.  .**BTW, if you want to research your products (in your home!) or just to do some looking, please check out the Environmental Working Groups website, I refer to it frequently!

When you think of soap, you expect it to clean. But, you expect it to clean and NOT leave a coating of pesticide, carcinogens, and cancer-causing ingredients to whatever it is you are attempting to clean.  At least, that is what you would HOPE soap would do.

Unfortunately, unless you have a degree in chemistry, or carry a list around in your back pocket at all times, how do you know a soap is safe? Well, I can assure you, THIS is about as friendly as the recipe as you will ever find!

A few months ago (okay, a year ago), I purchased a bottle of (link to buy included here)  Dr. Bronner’s castile soap in Eucalyptus scent for myself, as well as some for my mom, and my mother in law, and my sister in law. We each got different scents. I have not, as of right now, checked with any of them to find out how they liked their particular version, but I will.  Additionally, I had not experienced any positive uses of the Dr. Bronners. When I used it, it was more like, oh, I’ll use this soap (because it was handy at the time), and it never seemed to work out as I expected. It was filmy. it didn’t quite suds as I wished it would, etc.

Well, turns out, Dr. Bronners is not meant to be put to use straight from the bottle! it is best used when mixed with water and a few other things, to make different concoctions of soap.

One of the first things I used it for was dishwasher detergent, for which you can find the really simple recipe, here: Dr. Bronner’s AMAZINGLY EASY Dishwasher Soap Recipe.  Which, by the way, this dishwasher detergent recipe leaves my dishes the cleanest they have ever been. I am simply amazed at the results.

So, here it is, the foaming hand soap recipe…..are you prepared to take notes?  I certainly do hope so, because it is pretty complicated.  (no, not really, I promise!):

Equal Parts Dr. Bronners Liquid Castile Soap and Water – shake well

Fill a foaming hand soap bottle – it is highly recommended to use one from Bath and Body Works, since theirs work well with the recipe and they also are a little more durable. Don’t buy one…just ask a friend, if you are like me, you know someone who has one. and, when you ask, share with them this recipe!  Direct them to my website. 🙂

Please see the story behind Dr. Bronner’s soaps here: Dr. Bronners Soaps Legacy.  I think you will be happy to know that they are 100% safe for the environment. I know people who brush their teeth with it!! No lie. 🙂
